Facilitators in primary care

Abstract

Facilitators have been in the forefront of changes in primary heath care in recent years. This article traces the development of the role from its beginnings in Inner London, through its use as a major component of the Oxford Heart Attack and Stroke Prevention Project, to new challenges in attempting to improve the care of depressed people in general practice settings.
