The role of serotonin in human sleep

Summary

Pharmacologic agents which influence the synthesis, release and action of serotonin in the central nervous system cause changes in both sleep and mood This link between on the one hand, and sleep and mood on the other suggests that a better understanding of the role of serotonin in sleep could lead to improved treatments of depression through rational manipulations of the serotonin system in the central nervous system.
