Abstract

Optimal therapy for acne vulgaris depends upon a knowledge of the basic pathogenic mechanisms of the disease. In this introductory report, the four basic goals of treatment are briefly summarized and some of the unsolved problems related to the pathogenesis of acne have been brought up for discussion.
