Abstract
A 19-year-old woman with pemphigus vegetans located solely in the mouth and on the lips from the age of 13 years had been treated unsuccessfully with corticoids in various doses, followed by azathioprine at the age of 16. The lesions persisted and at times extended to the trunk. Oral hygiene and periodontal treatment led to the disappearance of the lesions and allowed a reduction to very low steroid doses. The importance of an interdisciplinary approach is stressed, and it is suggested that periodontal disease may be involved in the course of diverse dermatological pathologies.
