Abstract

We found that topically applied 2% ketoconazole cream showed suppressive effects on scaly erythematous lesions produced by repeated applications of heat-killed spore suspensions of Malassezia furfur to the skin of hairless guinea-pigs. The antiinflammatory effects were comparable to, but appeared later than, those of 0.1% hydrocortisone 17-butyrate cream when evaluated after 8 days of treatment. The results obtained agree well with the reported clinical efficacy of topical ketoconazole in seborrhoeic dermatitis.
