Psychological Aspects of Physical Rehabilitation After Severe Head Injury: A Case Study

Pages 47-51 | Published online: 10 Jul 2009

Abstract

A treatment programme designed to increase mobility in a long–standing chairbound patient is described. Although analysis of the efficacy of the programme is subjective, the case illustrates the potential psychological factors which may impede physical rehabilitation and the management of such factors. It is suggested that holistic approaches to treatment, involvement of the eventual carers and transference of therapeutic effort away from the hospital setting to the home may constitute advantageous treatment strategies.
