Physical therapy in a different culture

Pages 113-117 | Accepted 01 Dec 1995, Published online: 10 Jul 2009

Abstract

What I consider exotic, charming, enchanting or captivating, you may consider annoying, distasteful, offensive or even repugnant. What works for one does not work for another. For some individuals, the opportunity to work internationally in a cross-cultural setting is the chance of a lifetime. Others might find it a miserable experience. This paper focuses on theoretical and practical considerations that you must be aware of when trying to decide if a cross-cultural experience is right for you, and if so, what to bear in mind to aid in the development of individual cross-cultural competence.
