Abstract
This study investigated the physiological response to exercise at resistance levels 1–4 on a Stepper Precor 718e (Stepper), 4 months after coronary artery bypass grafting in 15 patients. With patients exercising in the standing and high sitting positions, oxygen consumption, heart rate, systolic blood pressure, carbon dioxide production, respiratory rate, minute volume and the dyspnoea index were compared. We found that all parameters measured in the high sitting position were significantly higher than those in the standing position at resistance levels 2–4.
