Public mental health policy: Some European issues

Pages 123-132 | Published online: 06 Jul 2009

Abstract

The nature of public mental health policy is reviewed from the perspective of the locally based mental health professional, examining some common principles in European public policy. These are compared and contrasted with the often-influential principles and content of American mental health policy. The major common issues are identified, some are questioned, and some neglected aspects of mental health policy are highlighted.
