The systematic review in primary care of patients with chronic psychotic illnesses

Abstract

A general practitioner may only have a small number of patients with a chronic psychotic illness under their care. This paper suggests that it may be helpful if the clinical and social needs of these patients are reviewed periodically by i) the practice instituting a specific policy for their long term care, and ii) the family doctor using a standardised approach to their assessment and review. An example of an assessment and review schedule designed for use in routine practice and storage in the patient's medical notes, is included as an appendix.
