This special issue of ‘Molecular Membrane Biology' has provided a unique opportunity to gather together many of the world's experts in the broad field of lipid studies.
Various aspects of lipid molecular biology, lipid biochemistry and biophysics discussed at the 52nd International Conference on the Bioscience of Lipids from August 30th till September 3rd 2011 in Warsaw are summarized within the nine contributions provided by the participants of this meeting.
