Abstract
The national perspective on mental health which is evident in the National Mental Health Strategy was a long time coming. It is a perspective which arose as a consequence of long term and concerted lobbying from many non-government and professional sources and is in large part, a response to the interest taken by the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission.
