Abstract
The use of personal computers by field—based clinical research associates is being tested by The Upjohn Company. Although training is difficult and time consuming, the CRAs who have computers have become more proficient in their use, and use this equipment regularly. The main functions of the computer at this time are: communications with in-house research personnel, word processing, investigator data files, and study tracking. Future uses may include direct transmittal of study documentation and linking into remote data entry systems in clinical investigators offices. Certainly the CRA will use the computer for purposes not yet apparent.
