Pages 307-313 | Published online: 28 Sep 2008

Abstract

Job burnout is a consequence of unmanageable continuous stress, stemming from interaction in the work environment which results in abnormal physical, emotional, mental and/or behavioral signs and symptoms. Job burnout is a multidimensional syndrome. Understanding job burnout becomes difficult since different people react differently to burnout under the same conditions. In dealing with burnout, it is beneficial for the affected individual to take a vacation(s), exercise, reduce work load, set realistic work schedules, and when necessary change jobs.
