Abstract

Using neutron activation analysis, zinc and cadmium concentrations in 18 placentas from proteinuric hypertensive pregnancies and 10 control placentas were determined. The results showed a significantly higher level of zinc in the toxemic placentas, with no difference in cadmium distribution. These findings, along with previous zinc research, indicate a deranged zinc metabolism in severe toxemia.
