Abstract
The effect of a sub-lethal dose of endotoxin on blood pressure, plasma, vascular and renal renin has been studied in pregnant and non-pregnant rats.
Endotoxin induced a significant fall in blood pressure in the non-pregnant rats but had no hypotensive effect in the pregnant animals
Although endotoxin produced similar changes in plasma renin concentration, white blood cell and platelet counts in both groups of rats, its effect on vascular and renal renin differed significantly.
The significance of these findings in relation to the influence of pregnancy on the Shwartzmann reaction is discussed
