Abstract
Amniotic fluid prostanoids, prostacyclin (6KetoPGF1α) and thromboxane (T × B2) were measured in 11 women with eclampsia; 10 with severe hypertension and 11 controls. The levels of 6KetoPGF1α in the group with eclampsia were significantly lower than those of the control group. (Mean values: Eclampsia = 267; Severe Hypertension = 482; Control = 753 pg/ml). There was no significant difference between the groups with respect to T×B2. These results reinforce the theory that prostacyclin is involved in the pathophysiology of eclampsia and severe pre eclampsia.
