Controlled Release Kinetics of Cimetidine Microcapsules

Abstract

Microcapsules of Cimetidine as an anti-ulcer drug have been prepared by the emulsion-solvent evaporation technique using Eudragit RS-100 as the coating polymeric material. Drug release from the microcapsules was determined in different kinetic models such as zero-order, Higuchi matrix, first-order, and Baker-Lonsdale. An in-vitro dissolution study has been carried out to evaluate the effect of size on the diffusivity rate constant (K_bl) and the diffusion coefficient (D_a). BASIC programming with the help of PC/XT has been used to compute the kinetic models.
