Pages 385-393 | Received 02 Feb 1972, Published online: 11 Jul 2009

Abstract

This paper reviews the history of mathematical models of the patient-artificial kidney system and describes some recent advances in the application of these models to the prediction of patient chemistry changes during the hemo-dialysis procedure. The paper emphasizes the necessity of the computer for the solution of complex models which are presently being used to describe water and solute exchange in the patient.
