Abstract

1,2-Di-(2,4-octadecadienoyl)-sn-glycero-3-phosphoryl-choline (DODPC) was polymerized as liposomes and analyzed their membrane stability as well as polymerization characteristics. The polymerization profiles and corresponding membrane stability were revealed to depend deeply on the polymerization method. Especially, polymerized DODPC, simultaneously initiated by water-soluble and-insoluble radical initiators showed excellent stability and no structural change was found by the addition of several surfactants or even after washing with organic solvents. These polymerized membrane were concluded to be suitable for the carrier of synthetic hemes or hemoglobins.
