1 Drugs, from a pharmacological and scientific perspective, are any active substances which affect the functioning and/or structure of any living organism, whether legal or illegal, acceptable or unacceptable by society, its stakeholders and the public at large.

2 A “drug's” pharmacological actions, short or longer term, and one's “drug experience”, which is the outcome of the complex interactions between, the chemically active substance, the user and where it is being used, or site (Zinberg,1984. Drug, Set, and Setting: The Basis for Controlled Intoxicant Use.
