Abstract
Common determinants of alcoholism and substance sniffing are identified among the Cheyenne and Arapaho Indians of Okla- homa. Computer correlations, interviews, and questionnaires provided data. Findings indicate chronic sniffing is prealcoholic behavior. Confusing family interpersonal relationships, alco- holism in the immediate family, and severe parent-child emo- tional deprivation predispose to alcoholism.
