Australia's Media Campaign Against Drug Abuse

Pages 693-708 | Published online: 03 Jul 2009

Abstract

A quasi-experimental research design found evidence of a weak main effect of the first stage of Australia's media campaign against drug abuse. Although there was no evidence of behavioral or perceptual changes, there was an increase in support for more restrictive anti-drinking and antismoking legislation. This effect was enhanced in respondents who were interviewed prior to the campaign. Implications for future media campaigns against drug abuse are considered.
