Strategies for Enhancing Existing Studies of the Natural History of HIV-1 Infection Among Drug Users

Pages 1691-1696 | Published online: 03 Jul 2009

Abstract

The AIDS pandemic has stimulated interdisciplinary investigations unprecedented in the study of illicit drug use. Investigators, in order to increase understanding of the multiple facets of HIV-related disease, can supplement longitudinal investigations with other study designs that yield additional information about HIV. Epidemiologic methods such as the nested case-control study can enhance traditional drug use research methodologies and broaden the research questions that can be addressed.
