Pages 1763-1768 | Published online: 03 Jul 2009

Abstract

This study assesses the effect of a number of risk factors on the initiation of or progression in cocaine use using longitudinal analysis of data from the Epidemiological Catchment Area Study. Evidence is presented showing that depression is associated with initiating cocaine use. Becoming employed is positively associated with the risk of cocaine initiation.
