The Emergence of Crack-Cocaine in Miami

Pages 1787-1792 | Published online: 03 Jul 2009

Abstract

The nature and history of crack-cocaine is briefly reviewed followed by a preliminary analysis of crack use among 254 juvenile drug users in Miami, Florida. The data demonstrate that almost all members of this juvenile cohort have tried crack, three-fourths prefer crack to cocaine, and the majority admit to daily use of crack. Perhaps most significantly, a clear relationship between the use of crack and involvement in the crack business was found.
