Abstract

In 1967, the Federal Trade Commission reported on seven deaths allegedly involving a “cocktail chiller.” The question immediately became could this propellant or similar propellant systems be pharmacologically active? The Consumer Product Safety Commission held hearings on the safety of consumer products. Legislation tried to deal with the symptoms of the problem, be it product, user, or supply based. The problem is “sniffing” a world wide societal problem.
