Abstract
While the use/abuse of psychoactive drugs other than alcohol continues to pose problems, alcohol abuse retains its status as a major threat to the health and safety of our youth. Prevention of drinking problems among youth is a major health policy goal; however, our efforts in this area have been less than satisfactory. This is especially true among college youth. College students use alcohol for recreation and a variety of social rituals. Although alternatives are encouraged and even mandated, problem drinking, especially binge drinking, among this population has not abated.
