A discriminating service: the socio-economic and scientific roots of racial discrimination in the National Health Service

Abstract

The character and prevalence of racial discrimination in the NHS is described and linked to: personal belief systems; working practices; the lack of effective teamworking. A case is made for operational restructuring of clinical work, interprofessional training and education to improve services to ethnic minorities and all NHS users.
