Nutritional Flat-earthers

Pages 167-170 | Published online: 13 Jul 2009

Abstract

“Nutritional flat-earthers” was the term used in the editorial of the first issue of Journal of Nutritional Medicine [1] to describe those who believe that “if you eat a balanced diet then you cannot be deficient in essential nutrients”. Such people employ a thought process akin to that which was adopted by the original “flat-earthers”, those who maintained that the earth was flat, rather than round, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. This paper inspects the phenomenon in more depth.
