A Reversible Back Pain Syndrome: Report of Two Cases

Abstract

Two adult patients are described with severe intractable back pain of eight and 20 years standing, together with other musculoskeletal and systemic symptoms, including lethargy. Both had been extensively investigated and had had repeated admissions without alleviation. They were admitted to an allergy unit and investigations there found them to be allergic to a number of foods, chemicals and inhalants. Both improved rapidly on fasting and were discharged on oligoantigenic diets with neutralization therapy. On this they remained well, apart from infrequent reactions due to lapses from dieta
