Embolisation of a renal artery aneurysm with interlocking detachable coils and follow-up with colour Doppler ultrasound

Summary

We report a case of successful percutaneous transcatheter arterial embolisation of a renal artery aneurysm with interlocking detachable coils (IDCs). A 69 year old female patient presented to our hospital with gross haematuria. Contrast-enhanced CT showed a solitary large aneurysm in the right artery. Super-selective catheterisation was performed using a microcatheter. The aneurysm was safely and successfully embolised with eight interlocking detachable coils. At 1 year follow-up with colour Doppler ultrasound (US), the arterial lumen was normally maintained and no aneurysm was depicted. Super-selective embolisation with IDCs is a safe and alternative treatment in patients with a renal artery aneurysm. After embolisation, colour Doppler US is a valuable noninvasive technique for monitoring the lesion.
