Abstract
Fifty significant figures in the field of Mental Retardation in Australia were sampled by means of a Three Round Delphi probe to determine their considered expectations concerning the future forms of residential services for mentally retarded people in Australia. The changes predicted represent significant departures from most historical and even many current approaches. Generally the experts are optimistic in their outlook but cautious in citing the dote of widespread implementation of their predictions. Those changes that could (and that the group believes should) occur are outlined together with the group’s major considerations. Those changes the group believes should not occur are dealt with in a similar fashion.
