Abstract
Thirty-nine adult mentally handicapped hospital residents were assessed on seven behavioural scales immediately before and after shifting from old substandard accommodation to new superior accommodation, and again on the same scales six months later. The results were quite clear. Improvements in the residents' behaviour indicated that they had responded positively and long term to the improvements in their living conditions.
