Abstract
The Department of Audiology and Education of the Deaf, Manchester University, has been concerned for a long time about hearing aids for children in schools and units for the hearing impaired. Two questions have been in the forefront of its thinking. Firstly, is the performance of hearing aids supplied under the National Health Service adequate and, secondly, to what extent do these aids as used in practice achieve their potential performance?
