Summary
Children in residential and non-residential stuttering therapy used a questionnaire to evaluate the effects of the two programs. Results showed impressions of significantly greater improvement in speech fluency following residential therapy. Speech data supported the questionnaire findings in terms of the magnitude of stuttering severity change in pre- vs. post-therapy recordings. The results are related to differences in the pre-therapy stuttering frequency of subjects and the nature of the two programs. Subjects' impressions following the non-residential program were that its primary effects were related to improvement in morale. Possibilities for altering this program to increase its effectiveness upon speech fluency are suggested.
