Abstract
Hewlett's Paper Adopts A Constructively Critical Approach To Direct Application Of Technical Linguistic Analytic Notions To The Analysis, Assessment And Remediation Of Speech Disorders. In Proposing A Realignment Of The Distinction Between “Phonetic” And “Phonological” Disorders As It Is Commonly Drawn By Speech Therapists, He Presents Evidence Which Suggests That A Third Level Of Organisation Needs To Be Posited. This Permits Dyspraxic Disorders To Be Distinguished From Pathologies In Which The Vocal Organs Are Impaired (P. 161). Hewlett's Arguments Are Good And His Proposals Helpful, In That They Move Towards A More Principled Application Of Linguistic Terms And Concepts.
