Abstract
Dysarthria, the speech disorder resulting from the disturbance of neuromuscular control, can be perceptually confusing, as frequently more than one speech system is affected. However, many authorities have suggested that different characteristics of dysarthria, once identified, can assist in identifying the underlying neuropathology. The Frenchay Dysarthria Assessment, which is a simple screening test, has been found to discriminate between five types of dysarthria. It is of interest to consider the manner in which the dysarthric groups relate, as well as how they differ.
