Abstract
1. Out of 113 patients: 82 cases were of Cor pulmonale, 56 were treated and 26 excluded.
2. Patients were generally of chronic type, addicted to chewing tobacco and smokers and belonging to the lower income community.
3. Doses of Tincture Karveer (N. indicum) ranged from 1 to 8 ml per day in three divided doses.
4. Salt-free diet, fruits and milk were given to the patients as their regimen.
5. Vata and Kapha doshas were mainly involved in Cor pulmonale Congestive Heart Failure.
6. Dyspnoea, pain in chest, cough with phlegm expectoration, palpitation of heart, engorged neck veins and enlarged liver were common signs and symptoms.
7. Tincture Karveer (N. indicum) is a potent cardiotonic drug which also relieves lung symptoms of Cor pulmonale as a bronchio-dilator and cough sedative and the effect persisted for a longer period.
8. Irregular pulse was the most frequent toxic effect observed during the therapy.
9. Tincture Karveer (N. indicum) is a useful, safe and promising drug for the treatment and control of CHF in human beings.
