Using Brine Shrimp to Determine Structure-activity Relationships Among Lupin Alkaloids

Abstract

The simple and convenient brine shrimp, Anemia salina (Leach), bioassay has been used to evaluate the activities of 13 known lupin alkaloids. Data from this study have revealed interesting structure-activity relationships. α-Isosparteine was by far the most active of these lupin alkaloids, suggesting that further pharmacologic testing of this compound may be warranted.
