Abstract

Hot aqueous extracts of medicinal plants were tested for their inhibitory effect on phosphodiesterase. Of 33 samples tested, six showed reproducible inhibition. The cyclic AMP phosphodiesterase inhibitor contained in Coptis teeta was identified as berberine.
