An acoustic analysis of the effects of ageing on the trained singer's voice

Abstract

A range of acoustic measures was undertaken on the speaking and singing voice of an older, trained female singing instructor, to investigate the effects of ageing on the trained voice. We conclude that many of the differences reported in the literature are not, in fact, present in this subject. While clearly further research is indicated, this study does support the notion that voice training may mitigate to some extent the effects of ageing.
