Pages 87-91 | Published online: 12 Jul 2009

Abstract

Lung reimplantation was performed in 32 dogs. The technique used is described in detail. The results are reported. Of the 32 dogs, six died in connexion with the operation, seventeen died within the immediate postoperative period, and nine survived for between 18 days and 8 months. One dog is still alive eleven months after the operation with a functioning reimplanted left lung. The problems associated with the reimplantation of lungs are discussed.
