Abstract

A method for revascularizing ischaemic myocardium by means of diaphragm graft is presented. In an experimental series the graft healed to the myocardium in 9 of 11 dogs. The revascularizing effect could be demonstrated by coronary arteriography and/or internal mammary arteriography intra vitam and postmortem, and by gross and microscopic examination. All of the 11 animals in the experimental series survived high ligation of the left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery, whereas a high frequency of large infarctions and deaths occurred in the two control series in which no diaphragm graft had been transplanted to the heart muscle.
