Air Ionization Effects on Cardiovascular Parameters in Humans: A Review

Pages 63-74 | Published online: 07 Jul 2009

Abstract

Negatively and positively charged gaseous molecules present in man's ambient air are known to produce biological effects. The mechanisms of these electrically induced changes are not understood. A recent theory has linked air ions with the development of atherosclerosis, currently the most lethal disease state in the United States. The effects of air ionization on cardiovascular risk factors known to be predictive of atherosclerotic development are reviewed and future research is proposed.
