Abstract
We developed a set of equations which can be used with data to explore on a computer various aspects of the electrosensory system of fish. All equations were formulated for coding in FORTRAN. We first defined the coordinates, the environment, and the physical constants, and modeled the electrocyte organ. We next modeled the environment, and the electroreceptors and their interactions.
The model provides a means for exploring the complexities of the sensory system's capability, and it serves as a guide for further behavioral and physiological experimentation and physical modelling. The value of the model was demonstrated using samples of data from physical model experiments, and from behavioral and biological experiments.
