Long-Term Effects on Human Spermatogenesis after Microwave Treatment of Testes

Abstract

Cast-off cells and deformed sperm in the seminal fluid of 16 volunteers who received microwave contraceptive treatment were analyzed one year after discontinuation of local radiation of the testes. In most subjects sperm density returned to preexposure levels. Nevertheless, percentages of cast-off cells and deformed sperm were higher than in the normal subjects, indicating that the microwave induced degenerative phenomena had not completely subsided.
