Abstract

The authors report their experience in the treatment with low-frequency pulsing electromagnetic fields (PEMF) of patients with painful non-cemented press-fit primary or revision hip prostheses. Patients were admitted to the study at least 6 months after the surgery. PEMF stimulation proved to be useful in patient pain relief and in improving bone growth. The data indicate a dose-related effect for a successful outcome, patients should be treated 60 days, for a minimum total time of stimulation of 360 hrs.
