Abstract

Bovine lymphocyte cultures were exposed to 50-Hz electric currents. Forty-five hours' exposure produced no significant effects at 0.1 mA/cm², but at 1 mA/cm² a significant increase in chromosomal aberrations was observed. Similar effects were also seen in one of two subjects after short exposure (3 hrs) of lymphocytes in metaphase. A direct action of the field on the chromosome structure appears possible.
