Possible Nonthermal Influence of Millimeter Waves on Proton Transfer in Biomembranes

Abstract

Possible coupling between proton transfer and membrane acousto-electric oscillations is investigated theoretically. Estimations using typical values of membrane parameters show that such coupling could be subjected to sharp nonthermal resonance influence by millimeter electromagnetic waves. As a result, the acounstoelectric oscillations could be suppressed or amplitude modulated by the irradiation, thus affecting cell function.
